Yes, I am going to go here. But I am no hotspot in this internet so I don't think this should stir the pot at all.
What drew my attention to Matt Good and ex-wife Jenny Something initially was their online blog presence. I had never been a big fan of Matt's music; sure Beautiful Midnight had its go but I was never a devout MG fan [nothing close to this guy or that one]. But for the content and intent of his blog, that didn't really matter. He kept an eclectic artisans blog; partially about himself, music, production, upcoming events, and mostly about world politics; who's said what lately, what was in the papers that day, and how things were getting more messy all the time.
Then one day I clicked a link on the side of his blogroll: I found RaymitheMinx and at first I was a bit taken aback; I think that day she posted some topless photos of herself, but I read a fair portion and was drawn into the semi-psychotic ramblings of a B-list blogger. From the daily updates on how angry she got, to the hypertres cool attitude stories; the content was there and the dose was powerful. I'm fawning, let me get back to where this is going.
Finally I arrived at the now-defunct jennygood blog site through the maps and navigations of the internetwork of the internet. Truth is, I didn't even know Good was married; I hadn't paid a lot of attention to his personal life. But I got directed there through one of the aforementioned MG blog lovers. They liked to go to her site because she frequently posted pictures of how hot she is. Pornification of their Idol's woman.
The blog seemed to be divided by its own existence. The blog seemed to feign the activist-esque elements that MG's blog followed through on. There were some haphazard links to activist sites dedicated to the welfare of animals. But the content otherwise was this nonstop party in her head; pictures of her done to the nines licking a popcorn bag, stories of countless ventures to starbucks with their dogs; a self-reproducing contradiction between desired content and actual content. Remember that my MG Lover friends went to her site not for her stories, but for the photos.
What is the moral of this story? None, I'm not making any moral out of their current situation. I'm talking about Blogs. The moral of the blog story is that you should be exactly what you are and don't even try to be something or someone else, it only makes you less read-worthy. There are dozens of angry political bloggers who can't keep up like Good. There are dozens of Raymitheminx wannabe's who's imitation is implicitly sickening; to imitate originality is to miss the point. There are millions of Jenny Somethings who want to be relevant but can't forget how physically attractive they think they are. If you are going to start a blog, think about what you're doing. You're joining the greater conversation, you're making a place for people to see. Dominant discourses are already self-reproducing, they don't need any help through your identity crisis.
